At EMS, we recognise the crucial role PtX (Power-to-X) technology plays in shaping the future of power systems and driving the energy transition towards decarbonisation.
What is PtX?
Power-to-X (PtX or P2X) is the process of converting excess renewable electrical power into various forms, denoted as the X. As the demand for energy storage grows alongside increased solar and wind power generation, PtX steps in to convert surplus energy into valuable resources such as gas, jet fuel, heat, methanol, or ammonia. This facilitates the decoupling of energy generation from consumption, paving the way for a sustainable and resilient energy future.
Unlocking the potential of hydrogen is crucial in PtX technology. Through electrolysis, electricity from sources like wind or solar is converted into “green” hydrogen — a flexible solution applicable to industrial, transportation, heat, and power sectors. Functioning as both a raw material and energy storage medium, hydrogen provides an environmentally friendly route to achieve climate goals and facilitate substantial decarbonisation. The produced hydrogen can be directly utilised or undergo further conversion into alternative fuels like ammonia or synthetic fuels, aligning with the carbon capture, utilisation and contribution to a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
